As items trickle in, this area of the
site will be updated with information about where we've been, what we've
accomplished and how the band program has progressed. Since I've gotten my
hands on the information, I thought it would also be a treat to provide some
little known information on how the music program in the district actually
started.
There are also some other little facts
about the marching band. For example, did you know that we are the
only eight time champions in Chapter 6 Group 2? There are several other
Central Pennsylvania bands that have accomplished a number of wins at
Chapters including
Mechanicsburg and Carlisle (groups 3 and 4 respectively). Did you also know that the band actually
competed in Group 3 during the 1993 season? Well, they did, but were not
able to compete at ACCs due to a bus accident at the stadium.
In 1992, the band placed 17th at
Atlantic Coast Championships. In 2002, we came out of ACCs in 2nd place,
the best finish to date, which was repeated in 2003. I found a letter from then
Superintendent Dr. Holtzman dated November 1992 that was at one point displayed in
the band room. You can view the letter
here.
As it's been stated, back then it was
"make a good tape" and "do a good show for Mom & Dad..." But the band is a
symbol of excellence and dedication, and we are looking to maintain a solid presence in
the top 5 and continue on to the top! In 2004, the band won the high brass
award at ACCs, marking the first of what will hopefully be many caption
awards received at ACCs.
