January 12, 2001:I am starting
work that will add over 900 new pictures to the site. While I can't say
how far I will get this weekend, I will say that they will all be available by
February 1. Work is continuing on the new design, but getting all of the
new pictures prepared for the web is a large amount of work that can only be
done in FrontPage. For this reason I will be adding everything to the site
before the new design is up. Please feel free to send any questions or
comments about the design. Once all of the major work is out of the way I
can look into going back through all the photos on the site and perhaps weeding
out some of those that are lower quality and others that are duplicated many
times throughout the site. With luck, by the end of the month I might be
able to add updated materials for the Concert Band if I get anything from the
winter concert next week. Check back later for information, or contact me
if you have any materials for the site.
January 16, 2001: I fixed
the problems with the pictures from the Middletown show. I discovered this
problem as a result of the statistics reports.
This problem has probably been going on since I uploaded that collection in
September or October but has never been reported to me. If you find a
problem on the site, please take a moment and drop me a note.
Thank you.
January 17, 2001: Efforts
to add the 900/+ new photos to the site are continuing including some new photos
sent to me by Alex Bender for the 2000-2001 season.
January 20, 2001: Work
continues, updates to concert band and jazz band pages are complete. Some
of the years on the photos got mixed up, but that has been fixed. I
got the years wrong, so I will have to fix that. The concert band and jazz
band pages have been updated, and there are new
photos for ACCs 1997-98, as well as 1998-1999. I originally thought there
were new pictures for Carlisle for 97, but they are actually 98-99, so those are
online. New football pictures for 98-99, mixed shows 98-99, 1999 July 4
parade in Washington, DC. 1999-2000 updates include Chapters, Carlisle,
ACCs, after chapters, fall 99 preview, mixed photos. All pages prior to
2000-2001 are now updated.
January 21, 2001: 2000-2001
updates are in progress, please visit the page to sign up for email notification
of changes. This option will be available immediately for the 2001-2002
season, although it is too early to tell what materials I will have
available. At this point, I would like to have more for the concert band
and jazz band. Videos for the marching band dating back to the 1994 season
may be available later in the year as well as the formal ACCs photos at least
back to 1997. This is all pending approval of the authors, and I haven't
talked to anyone about this yet.
Summer 2000 band camp photos are up.
January 23, 2001: Photos
from the preview show presented to the STMS 8th graders are now online.
Thank you to Alecia Hair for those! Work is progressing on senior recognition.
January 24, 2001:
Photos from senior recognition are now available.
January 27-29, 2001: Football
photos are up, some fixes were made to other pages and files moved around for
organizational purposes. At Harris's request, Cedar Cliff will be the next
show to be worked on. There are 570 photos remaining, other shows in order
they will be added are Carlisle, Pocono Mountain, Mechanicsburg, Chapters, ACCs.
This is partially due to the number of photos in each section. Regardless
of numbers, things WILL be completed by Feb 1.
Cedar Cliff photos are done.
Carlisle photos are done. Pocono Mountain practice images are up.
January 30-31, 2001: All
Pocono Mountain materials are up. 300 some photos to go. Everything
will be done in the next two days, however, please allow until Friday morning
before reporting incomplete collections. I will check all of the pages on
the site Friday afternoon and correct any problems I find. Mechanicsburg
show materials are up as well. Chapters and ACCs will be complete by late
tomorrow.
February 1, 2001: All site
updates are complete. New photo total is 1296 compared to the old total of
651, so I ended up 6 short of doubling that before all of the updates. I
have just been notified that as of March 1, the Netmind service will become a
fee service that will charge webmasters $800 per site per year to allow users to
subscribe for updates. Because of this, I am removing all of the Netmind
boxes and code from the site effective immediately.
February 19, 2001: Problems
with Interland progressed throughout last week and after at least 4 calls to
tech support wasting around 6 hours of my valuable time, the issue still was not
resolved over the weekend. The site has since been moved to
Readyhosting.com.
According to Readyhosting, it will
take about two weeks before I am able to access live statistics about the site,
so I am not certain if I will be able to have a partial report for February up
or not. All materials and email accounts from the old site were
transferred successfully, I actually had the site up and running on the
temporary address provided to me while I was waiting for Interland to fix the
server. If you run into any problems, please let me know.
March 9, 2001:
Just some small updates to report at this time. This update and everything
that's been done will actually be published a few days late. Right now I
am on spring break and it's too extensive to even attempt on dialup. To get
rid of the white background, I applied a FrontPage theme to all the pages, this
is something I had in place on some of the pages before.
Live statistics are now available, as well
as stats for any day at least for the current month, and you can also have weekly or
monthly reports emailed to you. Information on how to access complete
information for any day you wish or even current and live (real-time) statistics
is available at
www.sthsband.org/stats.html.
March 16, 2001:
Some photos
from the high school musical Hello Dolly are up on another site of mine.
Take
a look. In addition, another new thing to mention today and that is
the addition of a guest book.
April 18, 2001:
Major updates will be taking place over the
summer and I will be starting a series of updates this week. I have come
up with two voluntary guidelines for using photos from the site:
Webmasters may download photos from
this site, but are requested to email the webmaster with your site address
so we can add a link to your site.
Individuals are entitled to non-marked
photos for personal use. All you need to do is send a note
detailing your request.
April 21, 2001:
Design changes will begin in a few weeks after classes end
for the spring semester.
May 8, 2001:
Photos and information from this years band camp will be available soon.
It also has come to my attention that users behind proxy servers such as the
Bess proxy used by the Susquehanna Twp School District, are unable to access the
guard site. Although I requested that it be unblocked, that's not going to
happen and I can't do anything about that.
May 12, 2001: Fixed
a broken link for 1997-98, if I find that there actually ARE photos from
Carlisle for that year, I'll fix the page.
May 16, 2001: A "coming
attractions" page listing some of the planned revisions for the summer is
now online. The marching index has already been revised with the help of
some new graphics. Check it out. Some small modifications have been
made to the information form for webmasters and to the contact information page.
The compatibility statement has been revised. I have started with my own
idea for what I will call design version 2.10R, a preview may be available in
the next few weeks. I am experimenting with different styles of menus and
navigation, so of course I will only be doing a few pages with each design
before I make a final selection.
May 18, 2001:
I'm still
working on the new design, and I am going to take a chance and put it in place
right away. Don't worry, I made a backup of the old one just in
case. The new design will take you to all areas of the site, but right
now, the ability to go through all areas of the site using the new menus is
pretty limited.
May 20, 2001: Just
some minor updates to report at this time. I guess when I put the new
design in place I made a mistake and forgot to check where it was linking for
the menus. That was fixed last night and there shouldn't be any problems
now. I put up one additional page to redirect people to the new location
of the Hello Dolly photos, and fixed a design issue on the new marching
page. I'm just checking out some of the different marching pages and
posting updates right now. Work will continue this week on a new menu
design and I'll see about getting some updated information on the Concert Band
after the concert this week.
May 24, 2001: Additional
small updates and revisions to some pages, nothing else of interest to report
right now.
May 26-27, 2001: I'm
adding the new menus to more pages on the site and making some other cosmetic
changes.
One
of the new features that I am experimenting with is the ability to select
individual photographs from a page of thumbnails. This will be integrated
into all of the marching band galleries over the next few weeks. As of
right now, the only thumbnail gallery available is 1997-1998.
The
other cool feature I am adding is a custom error page. Should you happen
to stumble upon a broken link or a page that was moved, you will see a page with
a few standard links and some other helpful tips. This
should be setup immediately after the holiday weekend.
The
new style of menus is now in place for the 1997-1998 season. While
working on them, I was able to separate the Cedar Cliff & Chapter
Championships photos because of uniform colors. 1998-99 is in
progress and will be online shortly.
I'm
putting a guarantee in place for the 2001-2002 season for updating scores
and photographs. Because I am now using a camera that writes the
photos to CD, I will be able to manage things easier and faster.
Having a laptop is a big help as well. Starting with this season, I
will have the materials online by Wednesday night following the
show. This is an average turnaround of 4-5 days.
May
28, 2001:All
of the design changes have been completed for the 1998-99 Marching Band
section, and the thumbnail gallery is in place as well. I have the
galleries finished for the other years and they will be brought online as
work progresses on the remaining sections of the site.
Some
misidentified photographs for ACCs have been moved from 98-99 to the
correct year- 1999-2000. The updates will be in place later today
including thumbnail galleries. Additionally, in the process of doing
the design changes, some additional pages have been added that were not
properly linked together, so things may be worth a second look. The
design changes for 1999-2000 are complete and are now available.
May
29, 2001: All work including design,
navigation, and the thumbnail gallery has been completed for 1997-98
marching band. Design work and the thumbnail galleries for 1998-99
and 1999-2000 is complete and these features are available, but I am
working on improving the navigation for these two sections and should have
that finished later today. The thumbnail gallery for 2000-2001 has
been created, it will be available soon.
Design
changes will be done for the remaining areas of the site as soon as I have
completed the major work for the marching band sections of the site.
I have new photos for the concert band and will update the page when I get
to the design changes.
If
you come across a problem or have a question, comment or suggestion,
please email me or call me. I also make it a point to generally be
available during practice so you should be able to find me there.
Keep checking back for updates, and sign the guestbook while you're here.
May
30, 2001: Navigation changes to the
1999-2000 marching band section have been completed. I'm starting the work for 2000-2001
today. This includes the new
design, menus and navigation. The thumbnail gallery for 2000-2001
will be brought into service when the first set of new pages is
uploaded.
May 31, 2001: I
don't know how I managed to leave Chapter Championships off the menu for
99-2000, so that's fixed.
The
actual photo count for the site is wrong again. I based the new
number on the galleries generated by Photoshop. The problem with the
galleries is that Photoshop does not know how to deal with the duplicate
filenames. Fortunately (I guess), the problem only affects 2000-2001 because I used digital cameras and never renamed the files
when I was done. This has been corrected and the new thumbnail
gallery will be available as soon as I can upload it. The photo count has been corrected
as well.
The ACCs
pages for 2000-2001 are done, and I am working on updating the rest of the
pages as a result of the photo changes. As soon as this is done I
will get back to all of the design changes which again will take at least
a few days.
2000-2001
Band Camp pages are finished.
June
1, 2001: As
of this date, all of the work for 2000-2001 Marching Band is complete with
the exception of Middletown. The Middletown pages are under
construction at this time.
June
2, 2001: All content for 2000-2001 has been successfully uploaded and is now
available to view, including the thumbnail gallery. I'm getting
started on 2001-2002 and have made a few small changes, but at this point
in the season, there isn't really any content except for the summer
rehearsal schedule.
June 9, 2001: Some
small content revisions, but nothing new to report at this time.
June 10, 2001:
Added scores for the 1997-98, 1999-2000, 2000-2001 Marching Band pages.
June
30, 2001: All
of the photos from 2000-2001 that I took using a regular film camera that
were scanned by Shutterfly will be available soon. I took the
negatives from all of the different rolls and sent them off to a mail
order lab to be printed, and I expect to have them in a few weeks.
As for scanning them, my efforts are currently being devoted to the
development of the STHS Musical pages on my other site. It will take
some time to do, so check back often.
July
2, 2001: Text
updates only. Information on contributing to and helping with the
band and this site has been added to the "About This Site"
page. Band news has been updated with this information and
additional notes about tomorrow's practice. As soon as I can get my
hands on one of the "ST" decals, I'll be changing the
background/watermark on all of the non-photo pages. I just think it
would look better than the Indian head.
July
3: 2001: I
did some artwork updates this morning for 2001-2002 Marching Band to fit
the show theme that was described to me, made some text updates and some
small FrontPage changes that don't really affect what you see, it just
keeps everything organized, updated and in order.
July
8, 2001: The
links page has been updated, and I will be continuing to add to them over
the next few days. I am also locating and joining a few webrings and
continuing to work on making the site a bit more search engine
friendly.
I've
been seeing a number of errors when I view the site statistics, but I
haven't gotten any reports of problems. In order to work on
correcting this problem, the custom error page has been temporarily
removed. With that removed, I will be correcting as many of these
errors as possible when they come to my attention.
July
17, 2001: I'm
correcting broken links on the site as I notice them in the statistics
report, but I am also aware that many of the problems are caused by
outdated search engines. I'm working on the webring membership, and
in the meantime I've started a webring for TOB Chapter 6 bands.
July
19, 2001: Just
routine weekly updates at this time. I have requested a meeting with
the high school administration to discuss formal approval and recognition
of this website. Your continued support and patronage of this site
is greatly appreciated! The prints that I sent out for have arrived, but I
have no idea when I will get the chance to work on them. I'll see
what I can do.
July 22, 2001:
Seems that the errors this
week are related to search engines, so there isn't much I can do about
that. The band news page has been updated, and after checking all of
the menus on the site, I fixed a problem with the 2000-2001 ACCs
pages. Other than that, there shouldn't be any other problems going
on. If I see a bunch of recurring errors, then I will put some pages
in place until the search engines are updated.
July 26, 2001:
The 2001-2002 performance
schedule is now online. Make sure you print off a copy if you didn't
pick one up already. Also, I just got my hands on the 2000 show
overview, so that is now available. Other text updates have been
made and I fixed a navigation problem on one of the pages.
August
2, 2001:
Important updates to the
boosters page including information about some of the upcoming
events. The sub sale has started and if you're interested, you can order
online.
September 17, 2001
2am: I have not had a great deal of time to
work on the site because of my varying work schedule and the usual beginning
of the semester rush for computer services in the residence halls. I
will be at the Lancaster Catholic show to take pictures and will start this
week to try to get my summer photos online or at least get started on them.
My work has also been delayed because my new
laptop has not arrived. I've been waiting a long time for it, and it
was going to be an essential item before a complete reload of my desktop PC
and I was planning to take the laptop on the road so I could get some work
done at home or at the show. I'm not even sure what is going on with
this anymore, just that I have been working at this since late July and it
is now mid September. Regardless of any difficulties with equipment, I
will have all the photos online within a week following the Lancaster
Catholic show.
Anyone
who has a digital camera and would like to help me out, please contact me.
Thank you for your patience.
September
20, 2001: Site updates will take place as time
allows over the next few days. I will be at the Lancaster Catholic
show on Saturday, and will have photos from this show and prior performances
online by Wednesday.
Following the latest round of updates, free email will be available to any and
all current/former band members, staff members, band parents, supporters who are
interested. You can pick whatever address you want @sthsband.org and have
it as a regular email account, web based email, or have it forward to your
address of choice. Details after this weekend.
September
24, 2001: Imaging work is nearly complete. I
am working on cleaning up the pictures from the football games, and then I
will be ready to integrate everything into the site. I expect the work
to be done either Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the completion of a
programming assignment due Tuesday that I didn't start yet. That's as
honest a timeline as I can give. If there isn't a note on the home
page, check here or email me for the latest status reports.
My laptop is due to arrive today and I will
get that setup as soon as time allows. I am also finding out
interesting things about my camera including information about the camera
settings that is embedded in all the images. So starting this season,
in addition to my usual visual marking, I am also embedding the website
address and author information in the image file. This won't affect
how anything is displayed, it's just intellectual property protection for
me.
September
25, 2001: Imaging work is complete and I am
working on my laptop so everything will be ready for the next show.
Check back tomorrow for the site updates. However, it will be a little
longer until you will be able to download full resolution photos. As a
full time student and with setup on the new equipment, I am extremely busy
and I am doing the best I can to get things updated here. Partial
updates are available, I figured it was better to post them than have
nothing up at all. I originally expected to have them done within a
day or two, but I am not sure about that. My timeline now seems to be
Friday at the latest.
Email is now available, if you are
interested, complete the form and I will get you
setup within 48 hours. This is the only way I can process requests
because you must agree to the policies. If you have any questions, let
me know.
September
27, 2001 (3am): Work on the football and Lancaster
Catholic sections has been completed. Work on images taken over the
summer is in progress and will be completed sometime tonight. I will
have to go back and do some remarking on pictures and add the links to
download the full resolution photos once everything is remarked. I
know how I want to setup the download section and how I want to work that
in, but that is #2 on the list. I need to finish the remaining
sections first.
I took some time to review this week's
statistics so far and noticed that the two most active days were Monday and
Saturday. Therefore I will do my best to provide information about the
performance information for the week, and get the photos online within 24
hours of the show. Hopefully, having the new laptop should allow me to
get started while at the show.
If you have any suggestions on how I can
improve the information that is available on the site, or there is something
you think I need to add, please let me know.
September
27, 2001 (5pm): All updates are complete and are
being published now. I will be working on remarking the images tonight
but that won't affect anything on the site. I am aware of possible
problems viewing the updated content, possibly because there were a number
of people on the site at the time I was publishing updates. The
problem should be fixed and I will publish everything again to be certain.
September
30, 2001 (3am): Pictures from Friday's
football game at Middletown are now online.
October 6, 2001:
Earlier this week, it was brought to my attention
that the site was blocked within Susquehanna Twp. School District for a
short time. As far as I know, this should be corrected. If it
ever happens again, let me know, I have several different ways to
restore access to the site. Unfortunately, I can not apply these to
the guard site, and I'm told they will not unblock it.
I made some revisions to the email policy
and I plan to do some additional design changes over the next few months
in order to replace the FrontPage hovers to something a little more
friendly to all web browsers.
Photos for the upcoming performances should be
available within the given 3-5 day time period. I've had a number of
problems with my new laptop, so that's going back, and I don't have any idea
when I will be getting a new one.
October 12, 2001:
Streaming video is now available
for ACCs performances dating back to 1994. I noticed that Middletown, PA
was going to start this and it was suggested to me, so I figured since I've been
planning it for a while, now would be a good time to do it.
Right now, I am only offering 56k dialup quality, but I will be producing new
videos for high speed connections sometime in the future if permission to use
the videos is granted.
Photos from Senior Recognition and the Carlisle
show will be available by the 16th or 17th which is Tuesday/Wednesday.
Full resolution portraits of this year's seniors will be available for download
or for reprint as well.
October 13, 2001:
I fixed a broken link in the
2000-2001 ACCs show pages. I've been seeing it on the weekly stats
reports, but nobody reported the exact page until yesterday. Please, if you come across any problems or broken links,
contact me right away via email so I can fix the problem.
This afternoon, I completed the photos for Senior
Recognition including high resolution images for download or reprint. The
Carlisle show photos are complete as well and are online. This is the
benefit of having all my equipment at the show. I will keep an eye out
this weekend for TOB scores and look into posting group 2 rankings on Monday
after most of the scores are in. Happy Birthday Mr. Perbetsky.
Apparently there was a problem preventing access
to the summer 2001 photos. I forgot to remove a temporary index file, so this
should be fixed now.
October 14, 2001:
All updates for the weekend are
complete and have been uploaded. Any updates or additions for streaming
media will have to wait for a while because I have some other projects unrelated
to this site that are top priority right now. As for next week's show, I
probably will not have a laptop so it may take a few days until I am able to
post new updates. Questions or problems, let me know.
October 15, 2001:
I am currently seeking
authorization for the ACCs videos, and expect to hear back from BVP Marching
Videos later in the week. I am going to leave the 56k streams up as a
sample or a test. If approved, I will produce broadband quality videos, if
denied, I will have to remove the existing videos. More news later this
week hopefully.
More broken links were fixed, and I removed the
sub sale link from the boosters page. That ended 2 months ago, I didn't
think people would still be trying to order! I also fixed it that you can get
back to the home page from the boosters page.
October 20, 2001:
Photos from the Cocalico show are
online now, and I fixed the Carlisle pages so you can get to the download
gallery. I have not heard anything back about the videos yet, but I
will get to work on producing new videos as soon as I get permission to use
them. Fruit sale information will be available
as soon as I have the information, which will probably be next weekend.
October 21, 2001:
In response to feedback received
in the few hours since the Cocalico photos were online, I ran everything through
another program to sharpen and brighten all of the pictures. I will
probably make it a point to do this from now on, and at some point I'm sure I'll
get bored and go back over all the other photos on the site. If you have
any specific feedback, let me know. If there are any particular requests
for photos, I can always try, but no guarantees. Remember, I don't know
who everybody is, but I can easily target a section at a point in the show which
would get the desired individuals.
October 24, 2001:
BVP Marching Videos called me this
morning and said that I have permission to use the videos for the website.
Streaming video for high speed connections is now online.
Small updates were made on the menus for the
various years in order to include "Streaming Video". Because I'm offering
two different speeds, and I want to keep things nice and simple, it won't take
you right to that year. Besides, this way you see everything that is
available.
October 26, 2001:
I looked at creating new videos
for dial-up users, but did not notice any difference in quality, so the existing
ones will stay. I created an "FAQ" page about the videos, which should
answer some of the most common questions. Cedar Cliff pictures will
probably be available early Sunday depending on what time I get back from the
show, and how long it takes to upload the stuff on dialup.
October 28, 2001:
Fruit sale information is now
available on the Music Boosters page.
The Cedar Cliff pages are under construction at this time. The variety of
photos may not be what they normally are due to some camera problems.
November 6, 2001:
The Chapters photo pages will be
completed tonight. I do have a video of a run-through at practice and the
celebration after the show, but right now I am not sure if I can use them or
not. Either way, I won't post a show video until after ACCs. I fixed
up a few things in different areas of the site, nothing special or important.
November 10, 2001 2:40am:
I just moved the Chapter 6 webring
over to the new systems as I was instructed to do by Yahoo. I know that
the picture in the little navbar there doesn't work, that can't be helped.
Also, there's a whole 2 other sites on there and they aren't displaying
the code, so I am probably just going to forget the whole idea. I have
links to them anyway.
November 14, 2001 1:30am:
So far the best I can say for a
2001 season video is I can put something up as soon as I get my hands on an ACCs
video. The chapters celebration video will be available when I have time
to create the video streams. The ACCs pages are under construction, I am
still working on the smaller images, but using the "download" feature you can
view the thumbnails and full size photos before the other pages are completed.
There is also an important announcement on the band news page regarding the
start of indoor guard. If this interests you, have a look and be sure to
attend the informational meeting.
November 15, 2001:
All of the ACCs photos are now online.
Also, I fixed a problem where the wrong navigation bar
was being displayed on the ACCs problems. I am also inserting the correct
nav bar into all of the ACCs pages so you can get to the various sections from
any page.
November 26, 2001:
I fixed a problem on the ACCs pages, so now when you click on high photos you
will be taken to the correct page. I do have the ACCs video now, but the
sound quality is very poor. Because of this, it may be a while before I
have something up on the website.
November 30, 2001:
Design changes will take place over the next month and message boards will be
added with the next update. I changed how the videos are being served,
although this shouldn't affect anyone. The change will allow me to move
videos between servers if needed without making any updates to the site or
